Honda Sweeps Birch Creek

Honda racers finish 1-2-3.
June 24, 2008

Danville, VA - We’ve all seen photos of Midwest towns under water this past week, and on Saturday at the ATVA Extreme Dirt Track races, the racecourse looked much the same. Rain fell pretty much most of the day on Saturday, causing the course to deteriorate hour by hour. Finally, things got so bad that officials had to postpone all of the day’s racing to Sunday.

It proved a wise choice. The weather improved overnight, and with some aggressive track maintenance, the racers were ready to gate. Honda TRX450R rider Harold Goodman got an excellent holeshot and never looked back. Right behind him was another TRX450R, this one ridden by Michael Coburn. Goodman proceeded to check out, extending his lead lap after lap, eventually winning by a 15-second margin and showing why he’s the series leader.

Coburn likewise remained unchallenged for second, also pulling away from the pack. For a third Honda rider, though, things were different. Brad Riley had gotten a less-than-perfect start and was seventh, but started working his way forward, picking off other riders. On the very last lap, Riley moved into third, making Birch Creek a 1-2-3 Honda sweep!

Goodman stretched his lead in the series to 21 points after the race, while second-place finisher Coburn is also second in the series.
