Winterizing Your Powersports: Your Guide to a Smooth Start Next Season

Winterizing Your Powersports: Your Guide to a Smooth Start Next Season

When winter hits Greeley, your powersports machines deserve some TLC before their hibernation.
Whether you’re putting away a Sea-Doo, Switch pontoon, Can-Am Spyder, or your BMW or Triumph motorcycle, proper winterization means fewer headaches and better performance when spring rolls back around.

And if you’d rather let the pros handle it — we’ve got you covered with free pickup and drop-off for service appointments, plus a fully stocked parts department to keep your ride in peak shape all year.

Bonus: All 2025 BRP Sea-Doo Switch models qualify for free cover, free storage, free winterization, and double rebates through the end of October. Don’t miss it!

Sea-Doo Personal Watercraft & Switch Pontoon Winterization

(Based on BRP/Sea-Doo OEM recommendations)

1. Flush & dry your system
After your last ride, flush the exhaust and cooling system with fresh water through the flush port. Once complete, use compressed air (about 55 psi) to blow out any remaining water — moisture left inside can freeze and cause serious damage.

2. Fuel system prep
Top off the tank with fresh fuel and add a fuel stabilizer (like XPS Fuel Stabilizer). This prevents ethanol separation and fuel varnish during storage. Run the engine for a few minutes so it circulates.

3. Change oil and protect the engine
Drain old oil and replace the filter before winter. Spray fogging oil into each cylinder to coat internal components and prevent corrosion.

4. Battery care
Remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry space. Hook it up to a battery maintainer — don’t just let it sit.

5. Clean, cover, and store
Wash your watercraft, inspect for cracks or damage, and cover it with a breathable, waterproof cover.

For Sea-Doo Switch owners: Don’t forget to open the exhaust drain plug, purge remaining water, and re-seal the plug before storing.

Can-Am Spyder Winterization

(BRP On-Road OEM guidance)

  • Wash and wax your Spyder to remove road salt and grime.

  • Add fuel stabilizer and run the engine briefly.

  • Change oil and check coolant levels.

  • Disconnect or remove your battery and use a maintainer.

  • Inflate tires to spec and, if possible, keep weight off them with stands or blocks.

  • Cover with a breathable, indoor cover and store in a dry, safe place.

BMW & Triumph Motorcycle Storage Tips

Fuel & Fluids
Fill your tank and add a stabilizer, then run the bike for a few minutes. Many riders also change oil before storage to keep things clean and corrosion-free.

Battery Maintenance
Keep your battery connected to a smart battery tender all winter. BMW riders should ensure chargers are CAN-bus compatible to avoid system faults.

Tires & Suspension
Inflate to the upper end of the recommended pressure and, if possible, store on stands to prevent flat spots.

Corrosion Prevention
Lube your chain, cables, and exposed metal parts. Apply a light corrosion-protectant or wax to chrome and paint.

Cover & Storage Space
Store indoors under a breathable motorcycle cover. Seal the exhaust and air intake to prevent critter invasions.

Why It Matters

  • Fuel stabilizer prevents varnish and clogged injectors.

  • Battery tenders save you from buying a new battery come spring.

  • Flushing and draining prevent costly freeze damage.

  • A little prep now saves hours of frustration later.
